Skincare Tips for your 20s

’Enjoy Yourself – That is what your 20s are for.
Your 30s are to learn the lessons
Your 40s are to pay for the drinks’’

As the popular saying goes, your 20s are for all the fun and frolic and are filled with carefree days (mostly nights). While we agree that your 20s are to live life by the seat of your pants and to take each day as it comes, we also believe that balance is key – for any age group and gender. Everything comes with its consequences, and this is not to deter you! We are all for the crazies, however, it does end up taking a toll on one’s physical health as well. Signs of over-indulgence show in the form of weight gain, poor focus, tiredness and it even shows on your skin!

"Your skin is a reflection of how well you are taking care of yourself, both inside and out." Quoted the veteran fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg. It is enormously important to take care and invest in your skin for your skin to invest in you.

The best idea for skincare in your 20s is to establish a solid and consistent skincare routine that focuses on the basics and addresses your specific skin needs. Here is a comprehensive approach to skincare for your 20s.

1. CLEANSE AND CLEANSE SOME MORE

Start with a gentle, sulphate-free and paraben-free cleanser to wash your face twice daily, once in the morning and once before bed. This helps remove dirt, excess oil, and makeup, keeping your pores clean. Additionally, it also cleanses any trace of pollution and environmental aggressors that sit on the skin while you are out an about.

2. YOUR SKIN SCREAMS FOR SUNSCREEN

Always wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, even on cloudy days. Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays can prevent premature aging, dark spots, and reduce the risk of skin cancer. This one habit that you form in your early 20s can be carried on for the rest of your life and can have marvellous results on the skin.

3. LOVE US A GOOD MOISTURIZER

Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated without clogging pores. Proper hydration helps maintain your skin's elasticity and prevents dryness and clogged pores can be every girl’s nightmare. Clogged pores that hold debris is the primary cause of acne and breakouts. Resist the temptation to pick at pimples or blemishes, as it can lead to scarring and further inflammation. Stay away from harsh skincare products that can strip your skin of natural oils or cause irritation. Look for gentle, non-comedogenic products suitable for your skin type.

4. IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO REMOVE MAKEUP

There is no way that you can go to bed without removing makeup nasties. As often as you may read about this on social media and in articles, there is a reason there is much emphasis on this topic. Your skin breathes while you sleep and repairs it is self as you get your zzz. Train yourself to do a quick makeup removal routine using a cotton pad and our Gangotri Toner. Our toner doubles up as an excellent makeup remover and a quick cleanse with our Gangotri Cleanser ensures that your skin is doubly cleansed and squeaky clean.

5. OVER-INDULGENCE DOES NO GOOD

It is good to try and test new products but too many products could account for a recipe for skin disaster. Trial and error on skincare is a big no-no s it may lead to developing sensitive skin. Use good quality products that have undergone a rigorous testing protocol and that have been tested clinically, dermatologically and even been part of consumer studies and research.

Some other words of wisdom that can protect your skin from the usual distress of your 20s.

Smoking and heavy alcohol consumption can accelerate skin aging, so it is best to minimize or avoid them. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Hydrated skin looks healthier and more supple. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. During sleep, your skin rejuvenates and repairs itself, leading to a fresher complexion. Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and foods with omega-3 fatty acids. A healthy diet can benefit your skin's appearance. Regular exercise promotes healthy blood circulation, which benefits your skin by delivering oxygen and nutrients to the cells. High levels of stress can negatively impact your skin as they negatively impact hormones like Cortisol. Practice stress-reducing activities like meditation, yoga, or spending time in nature. If you have specific skin concerns or conditions, consider seeing a dermatologist who can provide personalized advice and treatments.
